PRESS RELEASE/01-29-2021 A total of 1,954 pieces of different types of solid wastes such as plastics, cans, bottles, glass, face masks, and face shields were collected during the river clean-up and brand audit last January 27, 2021 at Panigan-Tamugan Watershed in Baguio District, Davao City . In partnership with Bantay Bukid volunteers, the Interfacing Development Interventions for Sustainability conducted the river clean-up in celebration with the Zero-Waste Month this January. The brand audit involves counting and documenting the brands found on plastic waste collected during the clean-up to help identify the companies responsible for plastic pollution. PRESS RELEASE: IDIS Conducts Plastic Waste Clean-up in Davao City Wetlands

PRESS RELEASE/02-11-2021 In celebration of World Wetlands Day, the Interfacing Development Interventions for Sustainability (IDIS) Inc. together with community volunteers conducted a clean-up drive and brand audit on the wetlands of Gravahan, Matina, and Bucana last February 5, 2021. During the clean-up drive, a total of 575 pieces of different types of solid wastes such as plastics, cans, bottles, face masks, and styrofoams were collected. Most of it were plastic bottles, food packaging, and plastic bags – all were single-use plastics. PRESS RELEASE: IDIS Turnovers Urban Trees Ordinance Recommendation to City Council

PRESS RELEASE/February 2, 2021 DAVAO CITY – Last January, the Davao City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) announced the “rehabilitation and replacement” of dead trees on the entire center islands from the corner of St. John Paul II College to corner Ecowest Drive. With this, a total of sixteen (16) Acacia auriculiformis or Acacia will be “removed and replaced” once the Notice to Proceed (NTP) is issued by the City Engineer’s Office. They said that the project will reduce the traffic congestion and improve the drainage system as the local government plans to develop the said area. According to CENRO, the roots of old acacia trees will also be removed for the drainage improvement. But they assured that they will replace it and develop the center islands as linear parks. PRESS RELEASE: IDIS commends City Council on the passage of ‘Single-use Plastics Regulation Ordinance’

PRESS RELEASE/03-05-2021 DAVAO CITY – The Interfacing Development Interventions for Sustainability (IDIS) Inc. lauded the 19th City Council of Davao City for passing last Tuesday the ordinance regulating the sale, distribution, and use of single-use plastics in the City. On its third and final reading, the city councilors unanimously voted to pass the said ordinance. With this ordinance, single-use plastics such as drinking cups, ice cream cups, condiments or gravy containers, cup lids, stirrers, cutleries, straws, meal boxes, pastry or cake boxes, egg containers or clamshells, balloon sticks, and hand gloves are no longer allowed to be sold, used, or distributed for free without a special permit to distribute and/or use single-use plastic products.
