ATTY. MARK T. PEÑALVER

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Atty. Green Panda as he is fondly called, Mark passed the 2017 BAR exams and brings to IDIS his environmental law background, much-needed expertise to an organization engaged in environmental policy advocacy. He is also the former Vice President of the University of Mindanao Legal Advocacy Network (ULAN).

It was at the Sentro ng Alternatibong Lingap Panligal (SALIGAN) where Mark served as an intern that he realized the need for more environmental lawyers. He joined IDIS given the shared advocacy for the environment, with childhood memories of running in the rice fields, climbing trees, and planting rice and corn with his brothers. He comes from a family of farmers in Midsayap, Cotabato.

Today he continues to volunteer for IAmHampaslupa Ecological Agriculture Movement (Greenpeace) and ULAN. He enjoys his work at IDIS where he engages with different sectors and the government to push for the adoption of environmental policies. He handles the cases that IDIS is working on including the intervention case to uphold Davao City Watershed Code. He also is the go-to person for inputs and advice on environmental policies and issues in fora and dialogues.

Mark finished his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Mindanao in 2014 and his AB in Mass Communication from Ateneo de Davao University in 2010. He plans to take up his Master’s Degree in Environmental and International Law. His childhood dream also remains, which is to someday join National Geographic’s Team of Experts.
