Panigan-Tamugan Watershed, our next source of drinking water in Davao City, is feeling the effects of climate change with extreme heat and intense rainfall resulting in mature trees cut down, soil erosion in riverbanks and dried up creeks.
We rely on our BantayBukid volunteers to conduct continuous reforestation efforts to maintain the health of our watersheds so we get continuous water supply. They do this by maintaining nurseries of native species, planting trees regularly, replacing seedling mortality and conducting weeding to help seedlings grow to full maturity.
Our Bantay Bukid volunteers are farmers who patrol the watershed to guard forests, wildlife and their habitats, and rivers against illegal activities, apprehend violators, and report them to government agencies ~ with no health or accident insurance.
They receive minimal financial assistance from the City Government, capacity building from NGOs, and occasional donations from the private sector.
They protect our forests and keep our watersheds healthy so there is water for their families, for us and for all Dabawenyos. Want to give your share?
Here’s how you can help:
Donate monitoring tools and personal protective equipment – flashlights, handheld radio, cameras, binoculars, cellphones, raincoats, boots, tshirts
Provide group insurance to give our volunteers the security and confidence to face physical risks and potential conflict in enforcing environmental laws in our watersheds.
Plant a tree in our watershed and buy native seedlings from our BantayBukid nurseries. Want to ensure your seedling grows into maturity? Give an extra fee for monitoring and maintenance of your seedlings!
Feed our BantayBukid volunteers with some hot meals or snacks during their river clean-up drives, reforestation efforts or monitoring activities or donate cash so they can perform their bayanihan activities on a full stomach.
Support the education of our volunteer’s children through school supplies, books or other educational materials you have.
Share your load or donate cell cards to our BantayBukid volunteers so they can report environmental violations to government authorities 24/7!
