TO SHOW support for a campaign for more green spaces for schoolchildren, the Interface Development Interventions (Idis) will join the Tuburan Institute’s Family Adventure Fun Run on April 19.
Idis Executive Director Mary Ann Fuertes said bringing children closer to nature can help nurture a lifelong passion for environment protection.
“Not only is nature appreciation essential in the physical, emotional and spiritual development of children, it is also important in developing Davao’s next generation of environmental stewards,” she said in a statement sent to Sun.Star Davao.
The Adventure Fun Run, which was started 45 years ago, “aims to recreate the spirit of a people standing up for environmental protection,” Tuburan Institute Director Maya Vandenbroeck said.
The Adventure Run will feature a 7-kilometer trail run for adults and a 1.5-kilometer nature walk and tree planting activity for the children.
The funds raised in the event will help develop Tuburan’s green school campus in New Loon, Barangay Tugbok.
The trail run will start at 6 a.m. from the Mintal Covered Court and and end at the New Loon Creek.
The nature walk will begin at 7 a.m. at the Tuburan green school site and end also at the New Loon Creek for the riverbank tree planting.
Each participating adult will be charged a P150 registration fee, and a child P100.
Participants can register until April 18 at the Bayani’s Animal Wellness Center (Maa), Coffee for Peace (Matina), Forest Outdoor Shop (Mintal), Pet’s First Veterinary Clinic (Cabaguio), Balik Bukid Farm and Kitchen (Quimpo Ave). (Ara Casas, Sunstar Davao)
